And it's here that we meet the 4th fundamental force of nature, the Weak force. The Weak Force is responsible for electrons and protons combining to become neutrons. For a star 3 to 8 times the mass of the sun, further crushing by gravity is stopped by what is called neutron pressure—like electrons, neutrons also want to keep a respectable distance from each other, although for neutrons, it's the strong force battling the squeeze of gravity. The Strong Force, 10⁴⁴ times stronger than gravity, is a star's last defense to hold off total gravitational collapse.
