And if you wanted to live dangerously and orbit the black hole close to the event horizon, you'd see even greater distortion in space-time. Notice how you can't see into the black hole or throught it, even though its mass is concentrated at one point. That's because light itself is trapped inside. The starlight from background stars falls on the black hole, but once it enters the event horizon, there's no escape.
