With 300 billion suns, this galaxy has 3 times the mass of our own galaxy, the Milky Way. M84 is shaped like a football rather than the flat, pancake shape of the Milky Way. From high resolution radio telescope observations, M84 has long been known to be blasting out two jets of almost light-speed velocity gas from its central core. Then, a few years ago, HST was able to take spectra of the stars near the core. With a spectrum we can measure the velocities of stars.
